THE OPTIMIST CLUB OF SOUTH WINDSOR

Picnic In The Park Series

One of our newest events, the Picnic In the Park series was spearheaded and brought to life by our club member Pam Butler.

This family friendly event rotates at several different local parks over the course of the summer. On select weekends in June through September you can find local artists, vendors, performances, a complimentary BBQ snack, a designated “movie in the park night” and even a fireworks show! There is something for the whole family.

Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and non-perishable food donations to help stock local food banks!  Donations will benefit Drouillard Place.  Every can, box, or bag makes a difference in our community.

Watch our website and social media pages for an announcement on how you can get involved and of this year's vendors and live performances and showcases.

Tri Star Golf: Junior Skills Challenge

Our club has hosted this public event for several years. It is open to all ages of youth under 18.

Since its launch in 2009, the Junior Skills Challenge has introduced thousands of young golfers, Canada wide, to the excitement of competitive play in a fun and encouraging environment. The program was designed to help young golfers test their abilities in the three fundamental golf skills: driving, chipping, and putting, while also serving as an entry point to competition within Golf Canada's Long-Term Player Development Model.

For a small entry fee, past participants received a hotdog, pop, and awards for every child.

With this event we also collect non-perishable food donations in support of local food banks.

Watch our social media page and website for announcements on the next local competition and head to

www.juniorskillschallenge.ca for even more information on the event at a national level.

Storytimes

Our club is so grateful to Storytellers Bookstore who continues to host these events free of charge for local families. Storytime with a Veteran for Remembrance Day, Storytime with Santa and Storytime with the Easter Bunny are all opportunities for children to enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the bookstore and listen to a fun story. Families in attendance receive a free children's book, are encouraged to visit the colouring page table and light refreshments are offered to children. We typically accept canned goods or non perishables as a donation to Drouillard Place.

Soapbox Derby

Soapbox derby events bring excitement to local communities and offer a unique platform for children to showcase their engineering skills (alongside adults) and their competitive spirit.

Racers are organized by weight and vehicle style and can hit speeds up to  53 km/hour downhill!
This event teaches teamwork, creativity and problem-solving, all while giving children the thrill of a friendly competition and achievement.

Trunk Or Treat

An annual October event, Trunk or Treat on behalf of our club has children (in costume or not) go trick-or-treating from fun and spooky parked cars! Come on out to this event to fill your bags with candy from local businesses and community members. Our club typically has a non perishable food drive connected with the event as well.
